Posted by  Monday, 24 Aug 2015 07:01 PM

The Richard Tom Foundation (RTF) was created to honor Richard Tom who lost his life while cycling near his home in Hinesburg, Vermont. The Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of cyclists of all ages including making resources available so that all may discover adventure and joy on roads and trails. The Foundation also supports educational and advocacy programs to advance the cause of safe roads for all who use them.

RTF is pleased to announce the first annual Kids’ Crit to be held during the Dealer.com Burlington Criterium on Monday, September 7, 2015 (Labor Day).

The Kids’ Crit is a non-competitive event for ages 7-10.  Young cyclists will have an opportunity to ride a portion of the Burlington Criterium circuit.

A criterium is a bicycle race where cyclists ride a specified number of laps on a short course and roads are closed to vehicular traffic.  There will be two fields, one for each of 7-8 year olds and 9-10 year olds. The 7-8 year olds will ride one city block (about 500m) and the 9-10 year olds will ride two city blocks. Each race will have a separate start time. The rider limit will be capped at 30 riders for each field. While the event is free, pre-registration is required and may be completed on-line at bikereg.com/28279 or on the day of the event at the RTF tent located in City Hall Park adjacent to St. Paul Street.

The Richard Tom Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Donations may be made to the Richard Tom Foundation at www.richardtomfoundation.com or sent to the Richard Tom Foundation, c/o John Williams, 1645 Main St, Fairfax, Vermont, 05454.  Donations will be accepted at the RTF tent throughout the day of the Burlington Criterium.

In addition to the Kids’ Crit, the Richard Tom Foundation will host the annual ‘Richard’s Ride’ in May for road and mountain biking enthusiasts.
