Hinesburg Artist Series Spring Concert "MUSIC - Past, Present and Future"

Music educator and mentor Roy S. Kelley will return to Vermont ( 48 years later) to guest conduct at the Hinesburg Artist Series Spring Concert. Mr. Kelley will be the guest conductor for the Hinesburg Artist Series Spring concert. He was the choral director at Burlington High School until 1967 and Rufus Patrick was his student. 

The Hinesburg Artist Series Spring Concert will be Monday May 18, 7:30 p.m. at the Champlain Valley Union High School Auditorium. The concert will feature The South County Chorus, The Hinesburg Community Band and In Accord under the direction of Rufus Patrick. The South County Chorus will be joined by BHS alumni and the Hinesburg Children's choir under the direction of Andrea Haulenbeek.

In Accord will sing Bonasoro Modanna and By the light of the Silvery Moon.The Hinesburg Community Band will perform Satiric Dances by Norman Dello Joio, Accolade by Brady Massey, Gypsy Dance by Joseph Hellmesberger Jr., Into The Sunset by Matt Conaway and Selections from Mary Poppins arranged by Ted Ricketts.

The South County Chorus will present Rejoice and Sing by Rollo Dilworth, Rhythm of Life arranged by Richard Barnes, Let the Saints Get Up and Sing by Joel Raney. Roy Kelley will be the guest conductor for Shenandoah arr. By Robert Moore and When You and I were Young Maggie Blues. The Hinesburg Children's Choir will join the South County Chorus for Patriotic Salute.

Roy S. Kelley is a graduate of the University of Vermont. He began his teaching career in Waterbury, Vermont and in 1963 began teaching at Burlington High School until 1967. During his time in Burlington he also served as the minstrel for the Champlain Shakespeare Festival. He left for Brookline Massachusetts in 1967 and remained a music educator for 31 years. On the Masters level, he studied choral conducting with Lorna Cooke de Varon at the New England Conservatory of Music. Roy served as President of the New England Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association having received his Orff Teaching Certificate from the Boston Conservatory. He is also a member of the American Choral Directors' Association, NAfME (National Association for Music Education) as well as the American Guild of Organists.

In 1985, Roy became Artistic Director for the Millis Community Chorale (subsequently to become the Charles River Chorale) and as of May 2, 2015 stepped down after 30 years on the podium. In 2001, he became Artistic Director for the Snug Harbor Community Chorus, a position he still holds.He is in his twentieth year as Organist/Choirmaster for the Parish of St. John the Evangelist Church in Duxbury, MA, where he directs the Senior Choir. He also teaches both piano and voice.
